Traditionally a ‘cocktail ring‘ is a statement peice that came into fashion at the end of the prohibition era (around 1930’s) in America as ladies of the time found it a great idea to go out boozing with an enormous slab of bling on their finger as a means to show everyone else how awesome they were.
According to my go-to guy for all information encompassing the sphere of human experience, otherwise known as WIKIPEDIA, a cocktail ring is described as: “An oversized ladies’ ring with a large center stone often surrounded by tiny stones. Nearly any oversized ladies’ ring may be termed ‘cocktail’. This is the most common type of costume jewellery ring and is also known as a cluster ring and dinner ring.”
Well, not according to Piaget, the Swiss jeweller & watchmaker who have redefined the cocktail ring as a ring that literally looks like a cocktail …and they are amazing!
